Moderator of the Month
Each month, the DDR Freak population decides on a moderator of the month by a poll. The moderator selected is an example of the best our forums offer and go above and beyond the call of duty.
February's Mod of the Month:
Kiba!
Name: Cory Alexander Evans
Age: Seventeen
Nationality: Russian-American
Location: La Jolla, California
Relationship status: Single for the first time in almost two years.
Kids: Nah, not for a long time. Someday though. Right now I'm good with just me and my cat Milo.
Been playing DDR since: I used to have this fancy counter on my NNR, I think it's around twenty months now.
Freestyler, Perfect Attacker or just for fun: Definitely Perfect Attacker, although I never was/am that good at it.
What drew you to DDR in the first place?: I played DanceManiax very seriously, and a lot of my friends played DDR. After a while, I just kinda fell into it when DMX got boring and the sensors broke.
What is your favorite DDR song?: "Fantasy (MAX1)"
What is your favorite bemani song?: Hmmm...Probably also "Fantasy (MAX1)". I really like "Fantasy (MAX1)". "Freedom" would also be up there.
What Bemani/Other Music Games do you play outside of DDR?: DanceManiax (DMX) and In the Groove (ITG)
Favorite bemani/other music game: In the Groove
Do you have any favorite game characters?: Magus/Janus, Schala and Glenn. Can anyone guess what my favorite RPG is?
What is your favorite aspect about DDR?: I loved the feeling of improvement, and the feeling of community I had with my fellow players. I also really enjoyed the competitve tournament community. I workout alot for my baseball team and I freerun a bit, so the excersise isn't as big.
How long have you been coming to DDR Freak: Way too long. At least a year before I started playing DDR.
How long have you been a moderator?: Like three weeks! I love you guys in SoCal!
What helps you keep your sanity while moderating the site?: The knowledge that I'm making the board a better place for people to communicate and find information is enough.
What do you enjoy doing outside of DDR?: Philosophy, Chess, Kenjutsu (Japanese Swordsmanship), Baseball (Yankees represent!), Shakespearean theatre, Reading and Driving my sports car.
Favorite movie, food, and book: "Good Will Hunting" just passed "A Man For All Seasons" for my favorite movie of all time. A close #3-4 is "Casablanca" and the original "Twelve Angry Men." Any really well made Japanese food would win the food category. The book one is just impossible to answer. Academically, Spinoza's "Treatise on the Emmandation of the Intellect" was the most moving work of philosophy I have read, although I have a feeling that might change when I can get a class on Bishop Berkeley. In terms of pure novel? Probably "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" (Heinlein). I'm not sure if you count Shakespeare as books rather then poetry or plays. If you do, then "Macbeth" and "Twelfth Night" would be up there.
Have you met anyone from DDR Freak in real life? Who would you LIKE to meet?: I've met like everyone on the SoCal board. I'd like to meet alot of the moderators, and also some of the players I know from around the states like DJ Stunna, Kevin (MegaManX), LilQ, Pickles, Reflex and Sketch. I talk about and talk to some of these guys alot, so it'd be cool to meet them in person.
What do you do for a living? Do you enjoy it?: Well I'm majoring in philosophy, which means I'll be able to "think deeply about being unemployed" (Bruce Lee). I have played and taught Chess most of my life when I needed to get money. I like teaching some students, other not so much. Recently I've been tutoring Logic courses at UCSD and that's alot more fun.
Do you travel often? If so where is your favorite place to visit?: I used to travel several times a year to Europe and South America to play chess for the United States. Not so much anymore. My favorite place in the world will always be the same, New York City.
Any New Year's Resolutions?: Oh...just certain responsibilites about becoming an adult. Become a member of various political institutions like the Cato institute and at this point I need to start giving money to MSF (Doctors Without Borders) or I'll feel immoral. That and continue to do as best as I can in school.
Three things you like about yourself?: I guess I'll just go with adjectives for this question and the next. Pride, Intelligence and Valor.
Three things you hate about yourself?: Arrogance, Cynicsm and Aggression.
What's the most important lesson you've learned in life?: See my favorite quote.
What are you wearing RIGHT NOW?: Flannel Pajamas. What can I say it's late!
If you were an animal, what would you be and why?: If you mean the question literally, a dolphin. Research seems to indicate their intelligence surpasses even chimpanzees, and they have strong communication. A long lifespan, a carefree life and a wonderful sense of humor. If you mean the question figuratively, a wolf.
Describe your perfect mate: Oh my gosh, I'm not even gonna try because I could write like five books on this. It would be a dominant Lady with an open mind and an internally immovable comittment to justice and Truth (I capitalize intentionally but not religiously). And she'd have to be a Yankee fan, that's just a given. (Kidding on the last part)
Any tattoos? Piercings? Any planned?: My father made me promise I'd never get anything like that, and being like ten I made the mistake of agreeing. Despite that, I would consider having the symbol of my martial order in Kenjutsu tatooed onto my right hand.
Favorite quote?: "The Unexamined Life is Not Worth Living" -Plato. This quote has been the guiding force in my life as long as I can remember.
Final thoughts?: "Yeah I try my best, but some of those guys out there, they kinda scare me, especially that JSB guy. He's got this intimidating look to him! And I saw him at EAT3 and I was like JSB!! We could go to EAT3, and get a hotel room together, and sleep in the same bed. And yknow. Yknow. Yknow. Yknow. Yknow." http://www.adaminamerica.com/videos/inzuma-an%20introduction.MPG
